"Azeri" to "Azerbaijani" and "Azərbaycan" to "Azərbaycanca"[edit]
Hi. Please change "Azeri" to "Azerbaijani" and "Azərbaycan" to "Azərbaycanca" in this page. It's true name of language (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azerbaijani_language). And "Azərbaycanca" too. (See interwikis in wikipedia). Thanks. --62.217.145.213 02:40, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

- Oops, fixed again. mutante 12:25, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Do you think it should also be changed in Wiktionary, like here: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Azeri_nouns where "===Azeri===" is used as header on the pages? mutante 17:08, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Azerbaijani people refers to the people and ethnicity, regardless of citizenship. Azerbaijani language refers to their language. Azerbaijani without any qualifier might refer to either, depending on the context. Proper and linguistically correct form is Azerbaijani. Azerbaijan is the place name and the suffix -i is added to place names to denote something that belongs to that place. i.e Israel-i, Iraq-i, etc. Azeri is not a proper name linguistically, it is widespread because of convenience and being a shorter form than Azerbaijani. But there is not such place as Azer, or people, so linguistically it doesn't make sense to use the Azeri form. And there are certain objections and some even would consider it somewhat a pejorative, whilst there is no objection to the Azerbaijani form. Therefore, it is batter to use the correct form and avoid future discussions on this matter, because if Azeri form is used, someone sooner or later will bring this issue up again. --174.89.143.247 20:32, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
