Wikispecies is a project supported by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is meant to become an open, free directory of species.
Its mission is to cover animalia, plantae, fungi, bacteria, archaea, protista and all other forms of life and will be developed in close connection with other wiki-projects, especially Wikipedia.
Wikispecies is available in 31 different languages which are also licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License.
