Tings have been the councils of the old germanians and vikings.
The English word "thing" - as the "case" that was decided about by the ting - is originated there.
Tings were held in the open and on daytimes. The name of the German parliament "Bundestag" (Tag = day) relates to tings. The scandinavian parliaments are still called tings - storting (no), folketing (dk).
