A description:
- coined by practitioners of Zen who characterise the aspect of our mind like a mischiveous monkey, who jumps around, pestering and disturbing. This part of our mind, according to this model, is external oriented, grasping, hyper, constantly processing and searching for something to process.
- also coined by Carl Sagan and as part of his model of consciousness.
