How to change the default Linux console screen resolution to 1024x768 (non-X)
- open /boot/grub/menu.lst with your favorite text editor.
- move down to the lines starting with "kernel" like:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22-3-amd64 root=/dev/md1 ro single
- according to your original line, just append vga=791 without quotes
- example: kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22-3-amd64 root=/dev/md1 ro single vga=791
- save the file and quit your editor. reboot.
this is tested on various flavors of Debian. unfortunately it doesn't work on CentOS/RHEL.
