The term personal as opposed to the large mainframe computers universities were running at that time.
The Commodore 64 was the best-selling personal computer of all times.
1981 The IBM PC - Home Computer From an "Acorn" grows a personal computer revolution
Nowadays PC is usually just referring to the i386 / i686 class of IBM-clone computers.
Political Correctness[edit]
